K2 is the second highest mountain of the world having height of 8,611 meter (28251 ft), Mount Everest is the first highest mountain of the world. After Mount Everest K2 falls in 2nd position. K2 is known with different name chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu and Mount Godwin-Austen. Lacking a local name, the name Mount Godwin-Austen was suggested, in honor of Henry Godwin-Austen, an early explorer of the area, and while the name was rejected by the Royal Geographical Society, it was used on several maps, and continues to be used occasionally.
