K2 World 2nd Highest Mountain

K2 is the second highest mountain of the world having height of 8,611 meter (28251 ft), Mount Everest is the first highest mountain of the world. After Mount Everest K2 falls in 2nd position. K2 is known with different name chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu and Mount Godwin-Austen. Lacking a local name, the name Mount Godwin-Austen was suggested, in honor of Henry Godwin-Austen, an early explorer of the area, and while the name was rejected by the Royal Geographical Society, it was used on several maps, and continues to be used occasionally.

it is located in the borders between Baltistan, northern part of Pakistan is fullmountainous region having mountain ranges Karakorum, Hindukash, Himalayas and many more, K2 is the highest point of the Karakoram Range and highest point in Pakistan.

It is more dangerous and hazardous to reach the peak of K2 from chine’s side, many mountaineer have lose their life in attempt to reach the peak of K2,during winter its peak become more dangerous and full of white dress of snow, there will be no chance of climbing and K2 has never been climbed during wintertime.

The name K2 is derived from the notation used by the Great Trigonometric Survey.Thomas Montgomerie made the first survey of the Karakorum from Mount Haramukh, some 210 km (130 miles) to the south, and sketched the two most prominent peaks, K1 was found to be Masherbrum.

Geograhic Position of Gilgit Baltistan and its History
