Since the Sahara Desert makes up nearly 10% of the African continent, the Sahara is often cited as the world's largest desert,  This is not entirely true, however, as it is only the world's largest hot desert. it covers over 9,400,000 square kilometers (3,600,000 sq mi), it covers most of North Africamaking it almost as large as China or the United States,during the attempt of crossing this deserts many of travelers have lose their lifeSahara desert start from Red sea in the east and Atlantic Ocean on the west, the Atlas Mountains and the Mediterranean on the north, and the Sudan and the valley of the Niger River on the south. The Sahara is divided into western Sahara, the central Ahaggar Mountains, the Tibesti Mountains, the Air Mountains, it is the largest Desert of the African continent.






Climate and geography of the Sahara

The Sahara winds can reach hurican level and often give rise to sand storms and dust devils.such type of deserts receive less than an inch of rain per year and the rest receive up to 4 inches per year.
The highest  peak of the Sahara is the volcano Emi koussi (11,204 feet) in the tibesti mountains in the north chad. The other mountain ranges include the Air Mountains, HoggarMountains etc.
