Good news for students

Students

Pre-university students ages 13 to 17 are invited to take part in Google Code-in, our global, online contest introducing teenagers to the world of open source. With a wide variety of bite-sized tasks, it’s easy for beginners to jump in and get started no matter what skills they have. Mentors from our participating organizations lend a helping hand as participants learn what it’s like to work on an open source project.
Want to work with a real open source software organization while earning cool prizes? Try your hand at Google Code-in. 2016 dates will be announced later in the year.

Open Source Mentoring Organizations

Working with such young students is a special responsibility, and we hear inspiring stories each year from the mentors who take part. To ensure a great support system for these impressionable new contributors, we select organizations that have gained experience in mentoring students by previously taking part in Google Summer of Code.
In 2015 there were 14 organizations that created thousands of tasks for students to choose from in 5 major categories.
