Joe Biden, born Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. on November 20, 1942, is an American politician who served as the 46th President of the United States from January 20, 2021, to the present (as of my last update in January 2022). He's a member of the Democratic Party.
Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Delaware with his family. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965 and then attended law school at Syracuse University, where he received his Juris Doctor in 1968. After completing his education, Biden briefly worked as an attorney before turning to politics.
His political career began in 1970 when he was elected to the New Castle County Council. In 1972, tragedy struck Biden's family when his wife and infant daughter were killed in a car accident. Biden, devastated by the loss, considered leaving politics but was urged to continue by Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield.
In 1972, at the age of 29, Biden became one of the youngest people ever elected to the United States Senate, representing Delaware. He served as a senator for 36 years, making him one of the longest-serving senators in U.S. history. Throughout his tenure, Biden established himself as a moderate voice within the Democratic Party, focusing on issues such as criminal justice, foreign relations, and healthcare.
