 Major General W.H.K.S. Peiris has had a distinguished career in the Sri Lanka Army, culminating in his appointment as the Chief of Staff on December 16, 2023. Born on June 6, 1969, he received his early education at St. Anthony's Boys School in Panadura and Thurstan College in Colombo, where he excelled academically and athletically​ (Army Sri Lanka)​​ (Daily Mirror Sri Lanka)​.

He began his military career as an Officer Cadet on July 26, 1988, joining the Sri Lanka Military Academy at Diyatalawa. Upon commissioning as a Second Lieutenant on June 9, 1990, he was posted to the Gajaba Regiment. Over the years, he ascended through various ranks, achieving the rank of Major General on May 7, 2021​ (Sunday Observer)​.

Throughout his service, Major General Peiris has held numerous command, staff, and instructional positions. His roles have included Platoon Commander, Officer Commanding, Adjutant of the Army Training School, and General Staff Officer II at the 21 Infantry Division. He has also served as the Military Advisor at the United Nations Headquarters in New York and as the Commander of Security Forces in the West​ (Army Sri Lanka)​​ (Daily Mirror Sri Lanka)​​ (Sunday Observer)​.

His dedication and valor have been recognized with several awards, including the Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) and Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP) for gallantry, and the Vishista Seva Vibhushanaya (VSV) for distinguished service.
